The Peace Corps mission statement contains three goals:
1. Helping the people of interested countries in meeting their needs for trained men and women.
2. Helping promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the people served.
3. Helping promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.
Peace Corps service is a life-defining leadership experience. Since 1961 when it was founded by President John F. Kennedy, the Peace Corps has shared with the world America’s most precious resource – its people. Volunteers serve in 77 developing countries around the world. Peace Corps Volunteers live, learn, and work with a community overseas for 27 months, providing assistance and showing their devotion to world peace and friendship.
